Why the Capital Region?

There are many reasons to join the Capital Region and we’ve compiled 10 of them for you! If you’re considering relocation- take these things into account.

Harrisburg International Airport

Harrisburg International Airport was the first facility built with post-9/11 security measures. Serving business and pleasure travel needs, HIA is just minutes away.

Transportation Nexus

Easy-to-access, leading-edge infrastructure provides a transportation nexus that includes I-81, I-83, Route 15, and the PA Turnpike. Combined with nearby Amtrak and freight rail services, one can reach 50 percent of the U.S. population within 10 hours.

Ideal "Placemaking" Opportunities

Well-situated on the West Shore of the Susquehanna River, this exclusive acreage is flanked by Blue Mountain and offers ideal “placemaking” opportunities. Premier housing developments and Class A educational opportunities, including two Blue Ribbon Schools and nationally ranked school districts, are enviable neighborhood advantages.

Tourism Destination

Central Pennsylvania actually has two capital cities-the state capital of Harrisburg and neighboring Hershey, the Chocolate Capital of the United States. An international tourist destination, Hersheypark is home to more than 75 rides and attractions, including 13 roller coasters.

Recreation and Adventure

Eight state parks, more than 94,000 acres of state game land, waterways including the Susquehanna River and the Yellow Breeches Creek, and the Appalachian Trail lend untamed splendor to the Capital Region. Boating, kayaking, angling, hunting, and hiking opportunities provide recreation and adventure.

Pennsylvania Farm Show

Harrisburg is home to the annual Pennsylvania Farm Show, the largest agricultural exhibition of its kind in the nation. Farmers from all over Pennsylvania showcase their animals and participate in competitions. Favored annual events and sights like the 1,000-pound butter sculpture and Sheep to Shawl delight residents and visitors year after year.

A Military Stronghold

Since the establishment of the Carlisle Barracks in 1757—and the location of the elite U.S. Army War College-our military has played an integral part of life in the Cumberland Valley. Home to federal installations including the New Cumberland Army Depot (WWI), and the Naval Supply Depot (WWII), and an active logistical epicenter in Carlisle, the capital region remains a military stronghold. Harrisburg, Columbia, and Gettysburg pay homage to the men and women who secured our nation’s freedom.

Leisure and Learning

An extension of the area’s natural resources, the art of leisure and learning further enrich the region’s placemaking reputation. Affordable homes, world-class medical facilities, and living centers for every stage of adventure equal a Most Livable City brand! Penn State Hershey Medical Center is one of the world’s most advanced teaching hospitals and a destination for healing.

Rich Bench of Talent

Proud of a rich bench of talented workers, Central Pennsylvania is headquarters to three Fortune 1000 companies including Rite Aid, Harsco, and Select Medical Holdings. Other top employers include Arnold Logistics, UTZ Potato Chip Company, Giant Food Stores, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, the Hershey Company, and TE Connectivity.

Powerhouse Center of Banks

Central Pennsylvania banks aren’t afraid of a little competition. The area hosts a powerhouse of community banks, credit unions, and financial institutions with a strong deposit base and lending power.

Community Centered

We truly care about our community and staying engaged, one way we do this is through community events.
